What’s on in Leicester this July?

As the July heat begins to hit, are you ready to explore all that Leicester has to offer? From live music to street festivals and events, there are plenty of must-see attractions and activities across the city this month.

This month sees the return of The Gresham Network after a month off. On Thursday 5th, you can join us for our monthly no-pressure networking event with other local businesses and members of the business community. Stay for the full two hours or just pop in for a chat!

To kick off July, on the 6th, De Montfort Hall will be welcoming the cast of Strictly for their new show Keeeep Dancing! The show will feature your favourite professionals Neil Jones, Cameron Lombard, Jowita Przystal and Nancy Xu as well as previous finalists and live music from The Wanted’s Max George. Learn what it is to be a dancer via stunning choreography and enticing storytelling.

If this has got you in the dancing mood you’ll be pleased to know that you can get your dancing shoes on at ‘90’s live’ later in the week at De Montfort Hall on Friday 8th. Get transported back to your youth and witness the 1990s brought to life with the songs, outfits and of course dances of the era.

Beginning its run at Curve this month is the ever-popular Billy Elliot, which for the first time in the UK has been adapted with a new look exclusively for and by Curve. Guaranteed to tug at your heart strings, the award winning musical is a tale of determination and acceptance set amidst the bitter 1984/85 miners’ strike. You can experience this story from Tuesday - Sunday starting from the 13th of July. Be quick to book, tickets are likely to sell out fast!

If you’re looking to enjoy the great outdoors in the beautiful summer weather then we recommend a visit to the Flower and Garden show on the 16th and 17th. Set in the stunning Belvoir Castle estate, slightly further out from the city centre, the weekend will be full of opportunities to admire and take inspiration from the show gardens and borders created by award winning growers from around the country. You will also get the chance to gain gardening advice from speakers such as T.V’s David Domoney and ask any green questions you may have! You can book your entry tickets here.

Exciting news this month for all the football fans as the FA Community Shield was announced to be being held at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium! On the 30th July the 100th Community Shield will be played right here in Leicester, keep an eye out for more information and tickets.

For the rugby fans visiting in July, The Leicester Tigers’ stadium is running their monthly fully guided tour on Wednesday 27th where you will be taken through the fascinating heritage of English rugby’s most successful team. If that hasn’t piqued your interest, the tour will also gain you exclusive access to the backstage areas of the stadium, including the changing rooms and press box.

Finally, to finish the month, on the 31st from 1- 4pm the community will be coming together for the monthly Open Streets event. This free city-wide event will see the streets of Leicester close off to cars and make way for an afternoon of fun. You can expect to see a street art gallery, guided walks, rickshaw rides and an extreme mountain biking display to go alongside the cycling theme! You can find out where each activity is taking place here.

If you plan to visit any of these events this July, staying at The Gresham ensures your easy access to step into Leicester and experience all that the city has to offer! If you’re visiting any of the great local attractions in our vibrant city, make the most of our See and Stay offer and get 15% off a night’s stay when you show your ticket to reception and book direct through our website.
