Post-pub lunch countryside walks are an essential summertime activity. Here at The Gresham our onsite restaurant has the Sunday roast covered, so we’re here to show you some of the great walks you can go on in and around Leicester!

Leicestershire County Council have recently introduced an interactive map packed with walks at a variety of levels and distances, so we wanted to highlight some that start right around the corner from The Gresham.

A Short Walk Through Leicester’s Past

This walk is great for those looking for something fun and educational to do with the younger ones. Only taking half an hour, this trail will take you through the city centre passing historical figures, landmarks of myths and legends and one or two spots that are rumoured to be haunted!

As you follow the path make sure to take in all the information panels to discover the history and fully get involved. Learn more here.

Theatres and Music Venues in Leicester

If you’re looking to celebrate all things arts and culture that the lively city of Leicester has to offer, try out the Music Venues or Theatre short circular walks. These 35 minute walks will take you around famous hotspots for theatre and music, as well as some lesser known secret hideaways and past venues that boast a long list of famous names having performed there.

Wartime Leicester

Wanting to dig deeper into how Leicester played a role throughout different periods of wartime history? This slightly longer circular walk starts from Town Hall Square and takes you across the city centre to locations associated with the English Civil War, Boer War and of course the World Wars.

Be sure to check the information pack about points of interest and how Leicester played a key role in assisting the country through many tough times.

Leicester’s Suffragettes

The UK Women’s suffrage movement took flight during the Victorian era and continued into the early 20th century until the first women’s right to vote was achieved in 1918.

This walk visits a variety of locations that are linked to Leicester’s notable and powerful women who relentlessly campaigned to improve the lives of women and children in Leicester. Keep an eye out for some extra points of interest along the way that you’ll pass on your route.

Quiz Trail from Castle Gardens

Finally, for a bit more family fun, why not try out this easy access quiz trail from Castle Gardens. The short quiz spans across Castle Gardens, Braunstone Gate and the surrounding area. Make sure you print out the question sheet to fill in along the way and you can check your answers one you have finished all the hard work!
